Gov. Butch Otter has proclaimed this Nonprofit Awareness Week and for those of us in Kootenai County, we're well aware of how much the 403 local nonprofits do in our community. Approximately 9 percent of all Idaho nonprofits operate here, contributing $54 million annually in the county.

The KCAC Four-man Winter Basketball League will start Nov. 24 at the Felix Madrazo Gym at the Knights of Columbus Hall. All games are played to 80 by twos and threes. Teams may sign up daily after 3 p.m. at the KC Hall. Full entry fees and rosters must be paid before any games will be scheduled. For more information, call Bernie Boyle at 490-8867.

A group of MPs has called for a ban on cheap drink promotions in bars and pubs. They claim the ban would reduce drunken misdemeanors, as police forces are currently diverting significant resources into alcohol-related crime. Do you support their view?
