Opal and Al Symanski consider themselves ordinary folks who love their grandchildren. That's what ordinary, good folks just do. So in 2001, when Opal offered to become a classroom volunteer in her grandson's kindergarten classroom at Mountain View Elementary, it was hardly a harbinger of dedication that would impact a school.
